HEY PLEASE ANSWER THIS OR DON’T I REALLY DON’T MIND.
I was wondering how you draw so.. so cartoony, you know what I mean? Like, how do you DO that and keep it like that? Plus, I know you’ve probably had this question a thousand+ times, but what program do you use? If you could get back to this, then thankyouverymuch. ALLLSSSOOO iloveyoulongtimecy. <3WELL I’M GONNA ANSWER IT YOU BETTER NOT MIND.
I’ll start with what programs I use because that is easier to explain lol. I do all my digital stuff in Corel Painter X! Sometimes I color in photoshop, but the lineart is always painter. As for the none digital, it’s a mix of brush and ink and mechanical pencil. I have no preference over digital or traditional, I usually just do one over the other based on what supplies are closer to me lol.
Um, as for how I draw cartoony I’m not really sure how to explain, it’s sorta just the way I draw? I think the biggest thing to remember when cartooning is to be really loose, and build up a picture based on organic shapes. I’ll draw you an eridan step by step so you can actually see what I mean.
1.) Start off with simple shapes. A line of action, a skull, a ribcage, a hipbone, and the joints.
2.) Sketch in the basic body shapes on top of the shapes!
3.) And then inking woooo, I didn’t finish this because I am sort of really busy and needed to do this fast! But I wanted to show you.
Your biggest tools in cartooning are:
- Squash and stretch: This is a technique that animators use all the time, infact I’m sure you’ve heard of it before. It basically means exactly what it sounds like, here’s a good example:
- Exaggeration: This is where my favorite term of ‘ugly’ comes into play a lot. If you’re going to cartoon, you have to sort of let go of making sure all your characters are good looking all the time. I mean, you don’t have to, but it’s usually helpful! Make their eyes really big, or really small. Mouths don’t need to be small and they don’t even need to fit on the face.
By exaggerating their features, emotions are more powerful and give off some movement in themselves!
- ‘One big swoop’ lines: Make your lines in giant swooping motions. Don’t take your pencil and do those little lines and sit there agonizing over the elbow folds. When I ink digitally, I make one big line, and if it’s not the right shape or size I undo it and do it again. Then you can go back in and add the little details.
This leg is all done in only a few quick lines!
- Varied line width: Exactly what it sounds like. Make sure your lines have a varied line width, it adds movement and character! THIS DOESN’T MEAN IT HAS TO BE THICK, it can still be thin and have varied line width.
Like this, it’s still sorta thin for me at least, and still has some varied lines!
ALSO I AM NOT SAYING I KNOW EVERYTHING ABOUT CARTOONING. Please don’t think what I’m saying is the only way to do things, this is just how I do things! If you disagree that’s fine, it’s all good, this is just what I’ve learned from it! I hope this helps!

Mary Bell - child serial killer
When she was 10, Mary Bell strangled a 4 year old boy named Martin Brown. When she was 11, she, along with a 13 year old friend killed another boy, this time a 3 year old named Brian Howe. They strangled him, and Mary carved an “M” into his stomach, cut off his hair, and mutilated his genitals.
She was convicted shortly afterwards and served 12 years in prison, eventually she was released and granted permission to start life under a new name. She blamed her behavior on extensive sexual abuse by her mother.
She is currently 52 years old, has a daughter and a grandchild, and lives somewhere in England.
“Brian Howe had no mother, so he won’t be missed.” - Mary Bell

if a friend is feeling down about something, try wrapping your ridiculous hair around you and him. while it will look ridiculous, it will feel awesome.
